| When you are out and about stick to dilutable 'sirops' for the children and the ice cream parlours that sell real ice creams, it's better value for money. Buy local food in the markets to eat in your holiday let and then go out for coffee, digestifs and dessert |

| Beat the heat. Pack picnics, load up on juicy fruits to combat dehydration and freeze bottles of water to take to the beach with you. They'll keep the rest of your picnic cool and defrost slowly for cool drinking water. |

| Stick to water, wine, coffee and pastis, it's what the locals drink and therefore are kept at more reasonable prices. Take small frequent hits of the strong espresso coffee's rather than the more expensive cafe au lait or Grand Cremes. Order pichets of the local or house wine instead of wine by the glass, it's better value. |

| Handbag snatchers and muggers like to holiday too and there are rich pickings in any city holiday destination. Don't leave belongings on view in hire cars. Drive with your doors locked and your bag tucked away from scooter mounted opportunists. Don't wander around dark streets, drunk and on your own in the middle of the night and keep your 'street smarts', that you use in your own city, on alert. |

| Don't forget to explore other areas. The train is easily accessible and runs along the coast. The beaches in Antibes, Juan les Pin and Cannes, to the West of Nice are beautiful and sandy. Villefranche and Monaco, to the East, may not be sandy but the sea is lovely and they are wonderful family-orientated, well-maintained beaches. |
