International Games Festival, Cannes 2014

Cannes is a city which is synonymous with events. Undoubtedly the most famous of all is the Cannes Film Festival held every May, but this is just one of a rich calendar of concerts, conferences, exhibitions and tournaments that take place each year, most of which are hosted by the purpose built event centre, le Palais des Festivals. The International Games Festival is one such event which encapsulates the diversity of Cannes’s events.

Each year towards the end of February or the start of March, major players in the games world as well as simply games enthusiasts are invited to come together to celebrate and share in the entertaining world of games. From chess and scrabble to Street Fighter and FIFA Football, the gathering covers a broad range of games and treats classics such as bridge with as much time and respect as more modern video and simulation games. The varied mix of games makes for a wonderfully diverse mix of visitors and a pleasantly communitarian atmosphere.

The festival has a range of activities from gaming demonstrations to tournaments and chances to see the latest games before they hit the shelves. The event is held in the Palais des Festivals which is a superb conference and event centre situated just off the famous Croisette seafront in Cannes centre. It is located right at the heart of this dynamic city and is a great place from which to explore the rest of Cannes.
