In 1994, Ireland played host to the Eurovision Song Contest and in order to mark the occasion, midway through the proceedings, a spectacle was staged that would launch an unprecedented revival in Celtic dance, culture and music and which would become one of the most popular stage shows of modern times.
Riverdance, a modern production of traditional Irish dancing has been seen by an estimated 23 million spectators, with ovations at most every performance. 20 years on, the show has inspired spin-offs, tributes, hommages and replicas, but none have quite matched up to the original. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of this now legendary production, Riverdance is back for another tour, more spectacular and more memorable than ever.
The production arrives in Nice as part of the French leg of its tour to what will no doubt be a packed audience and the Palais Nikaia concert hall. Ticket prices range from €35 to €64 and are available from the Nikaia website as well as usual ticket vendors such as fnac. The Riviera’s traditionally large Irish and English population will no doubt help to create an unforgettable atmosphere in the venue and the event is set to be one of the highlights of the spring calendar.
