As of July 1st 2014 the Cannes Film Festival will have a new president. Pierre Lescure will take over the reins from Gilles Jacobs who has served as president since 2001.
Lescure won the position in an unanimous vote by the selection committee and will be charged with supporting the festival director, Thierry Fremaux, who will remain in charge of the official film selection.
While Jacobs is a film maker, both director and critic, Lescure comes from the more industrial side of media making as the co founder of French pay-TV giant Canal plus. Both men, however, are said to share the same view on international talent and forging strong links with Hollywood which should maintain the Cannes Film Festivals position as the most prestigious film festival in the world.
