Les Etoiles de Mougins Food Festival 2013

For a few days every September, the charming medieval village of Mougins transforms into a spectacular venue for one of the world’s most impressive food festivals, Les Etoiles de Mougins, or The Stars of Mougins. The title is fitting for several reasons as the Provencal village is famous for tranquillity, famous residents (namely its most famous, Pablo Picasso) and for its Michelin Star restaurants.

Running since 2006, the festival welcomes almost 300 top chefs from all around the world representing a staggering 412 Michelin stars and including 29 3-star chefs. Aside from the professionals, the festival also brings in crowds of up to 25, 000 visitors who congregate on the quaint village to enjoy all manner of culinary delights.

The event includes a selection of workshops or ‘ateliers’ where visitors can learn from the experts how to prepare exquisite dishes and learn some of the top chefs’ most useful techniques and trade secrets. There are also smaller ongoing demonstrations and degustation of local and international delicacies as well as a selection of street food stalls which provide further dining options during the festival.

‘Les Espoirs de Mougins’ is also a popular part of the festival as local young, talented chefs compete to show that the future of French and Mediterranean cuisine is in safe hands.

Mougins has a long history of gastronomy and has always been one of France’s Michelin star capitals. Legendary chefs such as Roger Vergé and Alain Ducasse were both resident chefs in the village and their tradition has been kept up admirably in more recent times. Aside from the culinary side of things, the village is also a truly delightful place to enjoy the peaceful side of the Riviera, with the glamour of Cannes just a 15 minute drive away. Set alongside the expansive Valmasque forest and with its spiralling cobbled streets, Mougins really is a Provencal town par excellence.
