2014's Carnaval is once again set to fill the magnificent city of Nice with colour, music and good spirit. With every year's event getting bigger and brighter, this year promises to build on the most popular of Nicois traditions, bringing truly spectacular floats, dancing performances and light shows to the streets and squares of Nice. The theme for the event has yet to be announced but what is already guaranteed is that the same energy, organisation and attention to detail as previous years will be more than matched.
Nice Carnaval is one of the largest in the world with thousands of dancers and musicians taking up place in the parade of amazing floats of flowers, sculptures and lights. Join in the festivities day or night with the traditional flower battles, light shows and general good time for all. Expect fireworks, enormous caricature heads and good old-fashioned family fun.

Nice Carnival is fun in the winter sun
Nice Carnival takes place in February and March.
It is Nice's most famous festival and dates back to the turn of the century. Traditionally popular figures are lampooned and represented as giant cartoon-like figures with exagerated features. No-one is spared, from top politicians to movie stars, anyone can find themselves depicted as a giant caricature on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice.
Make sure that you visit Nice during the Carnival, it is the most stunning event, taking place beneath the startling bright sunlight and blue skies of crisp February, as the first signs of spring begin to show on the Côte d'Azur.
2014 is also set to be a big year for Carnaval goers as it sees the completion of the much awaited 'Coulée Verte', a stunning public park which runs from Place Massena to Nice's Theatre National, offering wonderful space for visitors to relax and take in the impressive views of the citrus tone buildings of the charming old town. All in all it promises to be an incredible spectacle in an equally incredible location.
