Sportel is an annual event which is held in Monaco’s impressive Grimaldi Forum, offering a chance for members of the sports media industry to learn, network and share ideas on the latest technologies and developments in the international scene. The 4-day event encompasses all sectors of the sports media industry and has become Europe’s most significant event in the domain.
Those who attend the convention have access to the elite of the international market who are available for arranging priceless face-to-face time for networking and discussion. 2013 is the 24th edition of the conference and it welcomes a broad selection of VIP guests and keynote speakers including Francis Tellier, CEO of HBS and David Sternberg, head of media for Manchester United. 2012’s event saw another Manchester giant, Eric Cantona, present his opinions from his unique viewpoint of being both a footballing hero who has also developed a significant career in film, TV and media.
Aside from the broad range of talks on subjects as varied as ‘preparing for the FIFA World Cup’ to ‘Rights in the Digital Age’, the convention also includes ‘The Golden Podium’ awards ceremony which recognises outstanding performance in sports media and celebrates the year’s best sporting photography. This event is followed by a cocktail dinner in the venue’s restaurant, Café Llorca. Throughout the convention, there are also several sporting demonstrations including football and judo which take place in the main hall of the event centre.
Sportel is also in partnership with ‘the Golden Foot’, an annual award for sports performance and personality which is represented by an imprint of the sportsperson’s foot on the famous Croisette promenade in Cannes.
The Sportel convention is held in the stunning Grimaldi Forum, a short walk from the famous casino square in Monte Carlo and overlooking the magnificent Mediterranean Sea. It is ideally located at the heart of this stunning city and offers some of the most beautiful views of the bay and the hill and palace of Monaco.

It's been a big few years for Nice's sports fans. Both the local rugby as well as football teams have come on in leaps and bounds over the past decade making both a formidible force in France. This fact was rewarded recently with the construction of the magnificent Allianz Stadium just outside of the centre which replaced the legendary Stade du Ray in 2013.
The Allianz stadium project was pushed forward even quicker when it was announced that France would welcome the 2016 Euros and that Nice would be one of the host cities for the tournament.
With qualifications complete, in February 2014 Nice will also have the honour of hosting the all important draw for the competition. The draw will take place in the impressive conference and event centre, the Acropolis, situated in the centre of town, not far from the Old Town and the famed Promenade des Anglais.
If you're travelling to Nice for the draw or for any other event, be sure to chesk out Riviera Rental Guide's wonderful selection of properties using our search tool. |
