The Allianz Riviera stadium in Nice is set for its inauguration on September 22nd 2013. The stadium is not the largest stadium in France but it is the greenest and claims to be the first ecostadium in the world. It uses less concrete and more wood and metal as well as having a huge photovoltaic surface and 7000m2 of super high efficiency solar panels. The claim is that the stadium will produce three times more electricity than it consumes.
The stadium is ostensibly a football and rugby stadium but it will also be used for musical events, tennis and motor sports. With a capacity of over 35,000 the first big match will undoubtedly be RC Toulon and ASM Clermont on Saturday October 5th 2013. The French giants of rugby can test the new grounds and literally break soil on Nice's latest sporting project.
