The 2012 summer season on the French Riviera is drawing to a close. The 31st August is the less delightful tradition of being the mass exodus which sees the toll roads clogged with sun buffed families pulled homeward bound by work, school and the lure of reality.
But what a season it has been. Kate Moss has populated the British papers with her Saint Tropez topless holiday shots. Rihanna has bad-assed her way around in a monster yacht. Paris Hilton has taken up her regular spot in the Saint Tropez beach clubs and DJ'd the nights away in Cannes.
Madonna joined the old money set in Cap d'Antibes with her scandalously young lover and his family in tow and French Riviera local Bono showcased his, apparently news worthy, yellow strides in St Tropez. Which begs the question 'is this news?' Daily Mail? Or more importantly 'who wears jeans in a 40 degree heatwave?'
Only an Irishman would even consider it, the colour was his nod to the summer inferno going on in Saint Tropez, and undoubtedly his pants. He was later seen with a significant posse in tow at the infamous Monaco club, Sass Cafe, where he was serenaded by none other than P Diddy who rapped Sunday Bloody Sunday.
It was looking like something of an Irish mafia night out with artists Guggi fresh from the launch of his exhibition in the Accademia Fine Art, supported by Andrea Corr, John and Odette Rocha, Bono and Ali Hewson as well as Michael Stipe, Julian Lennon and Oliver Caffrey.
The summer seasons starts off in fine style with a who's who of international celebrities working the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. The Monaco Grand Prix ensures a host of international playboy sports stars and from there on the summer turns into a playground for everyone who wants to party hard or simply enjoy the more peaceful retreats of their own private villas and homes.
Elton John and his partner David Furnish kept to a more family orientated timetable with their toddler son during their Saint Tropez beach holiday, although Sir Elton did also manage to find time to perform. While Saint Tropez regular and fashion king Karl Lagerfeld could be seen exploring local perfume shops in the later evening hours.
Not every celebrity is here to holiday and some are working hard, such as Akon and 50 Cent who played the VIP Room in Cannes. Kim Kardashian, Kelly Rowland, Paris Hilton, Cyndi Lauper, Ronnie Wood, P Diddy, Pamela Anderson and Pierre Sarkozy have all rocked the famous club from Saint Tropez to Monaco this year.
As the summer heat wave wanes the South of France remains hotter than ever this season and while the rest of the world buckles down to an autumnal cooling the Cote d'Azur sunshine continues to bubble and the rosé sits on ice ready for another stunning year to come.
