Simply rolling the words Cote d’Azur off your tongue conjures instant romance. Images of indigo skies, sapphire blue sea, and mellow yellow February sunshine set the scene for a perfectly romantic get-away.
Turn Valentine’s Day into a Valentine’s long weekend or week of romance. From laid-back luxury in a boutique apartment in the centre of Nice or Cannes, or a cliff-top villa with stunning views across the Mediterranean, the French Riviera has it all.
With more than 300 days of sunshine and plenty of daily flights into Nice, even in the winter months, there really is no excuse not to go. And if you are thinking of popping the big question, why not seal the moment with ring shopping.
For a touch of the classic, she will love the very stylish new Tiffany store in Nice. The famous blue box adorned with a white ribbon is so timeless. Finish the day off with an aperitif and enjoy a romantic tĂŞte-Ă -tĂŞte.
Perhaps you would like to indulge in jewellery that is more unique to the area. Head to the ancient village of Eze set high above Monaco where you will find cobbled alleyways thriving with independent jewellers. Celebrate your shopping treat by pre-booking a table for lunch or dinner at Philippe Labbe's two Star Michelin restaurant at the Chèvre d'Or. You will certainly love the vista!
Treat each other to a shopping experience of a life time in Cannes, with swish brands on Rue d’Antibes. The Old Town, or Le Suquet is perched up on a hill and makes for a lovely romantic stroll. There you will find markets selling foodie gifts, olive oil based soap, lavender goodies or beautiful, monogrammed antique white linens. While in Cannes, sip on champagne cocktails at Caliente overlooking the Croisette, and book a table at Palme D’Or at the Martinez.
They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, so why not treat him to a true culinary indulgence by taking a day trip to Grasse and the Bastide St. Antoine where Michelin-starred chef Jacques Chibois has created a glorious gourmet hideaway. With views stretching over Cannes, this charming retreat still has its traditional French countryside style with a mix of the Provence.
If you want to simply soak in the scenery a drive along the Grand Corniche is second to none. Dropping into the beautiful villages of Villefranche-sur-Mer or Saint-Jean-Cap- Ferrat, where you can visit the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, a Tuscan-style Palazzo and gardens filled with a lifetime of treasure.
Behold the marvel of that is the village of Beaulieu-sur-Mer. It is exquisite. You will love the Villa Kerylos, over-looking the sea. You can’t help but shout out I love you’ or I do’, when in front of such a view.
What to pack: Expect mild temperatures and long spells of sunshine. You may even see some of the European visitors to the area, such as the Swedish and the Russians swimming in the sea, so don’t be afraid to pack your swimmers for a daring dip.
Four essential beauty musts for him and her:
Hand moisturising cream to put life back into those winter hands and get them ready to show off something sparkly. We love L’Occitain products.
A good facial moisturiser and one that absorbs well such as a gel. We love the range for him and her from Clinique.
Cracked lips are a no, no! Especially for this romantic jaunt. Pucker up and keep those lips moisturised and kissable with Dr Lipp Nipple Balm. This is 100% sheep’s lanolin (medical grade very pure) and we’ve been testing this on cracked skin, lips, elbows and feet.
Eye cream. Coming from a very chilly UK into milder temperatures in the South of France can make the skin around your eyes flaky. Be sure to look after this area of the face because you will thank yourself in years to come. We love Eye Hope from Philosophy. |
